How I grew a Web3 community from 0 to 60K
Most Web3 communities die because they optimise for the wrong number. They chase followers when they should chase attention that converts. Here is how I built Hangout DAO from a single Telegram chat to a 60K network that made its members over $3M.
Start with a reason to show up
A community is not a Discord server. It is a reason for people to return. For Hangout that reason was curated alpha: calls and research good enough that missing a day cost you money. Everything else was built on top of that value.
Turn members into distribution
- Give your best members a role, not just a badge.
- Run recurring live events so the community has a heartbeat.
- Reward the people who bring value, publicly and often.
You do not scale a community by shouting louder. You scale it by making your members want to bring their friends.
Measure what compounds
Followers are vanity. Retention, active contributors, and referral rate are the numbers that predict whether a community will still be here in a year. Track those, and the growth takes care of itself.
